The Ford Bronco is undisputably synonymous with off-road racing, having competed in and won the likes of the brutal Baja 1000 since the infancy of both the race and model in the late 1960s.
In November 2021, Ford Performance launched the Bronco DR-a plug-and-play desert racer based on the proven Bronco platform; built and developed in tandem with Multimatic. The latest collaboration between the two North American motorsport powerhouses, which has previously conceived of the most recent Ford GT and its stable of track-ready siblings as well as the Mustang GTD and GT3, featured an arsenal of top-shelf components designed for off-road endurance racing. Beginning with a Bronco frame and body in white, Multimatic furnished their form-blow-hardened ACCRA roll cage to the Bronco's stock cage and clad the structure in custom fiberglass body panels. Visible even behind the DR's colossal 37-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM3 tires were Multimatic's Positional Selective DSSV spool-valve dampers, which were honed specifically to effortlessly soak up harsh terrain at any speed.
Only 50 examples were built, and the 2023 Ford Bronco DR offered here is perhaps the most recognizable to discerning Baja fans. Its gold and white livery with blue accents is a clear nod to the eminent "Big Oly" Bronco prepared by off-road Bronco whisperer Bill Stroppe for Parnelli Jones, who famously drove it to victory at the 1970 Mexican 1000-the precursor to the Baja 1000 that was no less merciless.
The Bronco DR is powered by a 5.0-liter Coyote V8 that produces 418 horsepower through Ford's 10R80 10-speed automatic and a stock Bronco transfer case. This is the same format that has propelled Ford's official Baja entries to multiple recent class victories at the challenging, world-renowned off-road event.
While the Bronco DR is not road-legal, it was designed to act as an entry point into the thrilling world of Baja racing and was envisioned by Ford specifically to compete in the SCORE Unlimited class.
This heritage-liveried 2023 Ford Bronco DR is now offered from its original owner, having traversed just 19 miles at cataloging. Whether its next caretaker decides to compete in off-road endurance competition or simply requires a purpose-built companion for a weekend away from the pavement, the Bronco DR was created to make the next all-terrain adventure effortless but exhilarating all the same.
