Wipe off the Covid dust: Concours d'Elegance Palace Soestdijk

The Concours d'Elegance Palace Soestdijk is really something to look forward to. This atmospheric event takes place in late August and, depending on Covid restrictions, promises to be a great weekend for classic car enthusiasts.

The event will be held in the beautiful Palace gardens of Soestdijk in the Netherlands. The impressive building has been owned for several years by a well-known car collector, who has also exhibited his cars at the event in previous years.

On Friday 27 August, a tour with all participating show cars is planned. And on Saturday and Sunday there is the well-known pre-war sprint where members of the DVSCC will hold an agility sprint. Also, some Amphicars will sail laps in the pond.

The Concours d’Elegance

What really counts is the Concours itself. The Concours d'Elegance Palace Soestdijk has always had a high standard of cars in previous years. The last 'Best of Show', for example, was a 1936 Mercedes-Benz 540K Cabriolet A, which later won Pebble Beach. Previous winners include a 1933 Lancia Astura Series 2 Special Castagana, a 1929 Hispano Suiza Cabriolet de Ville, a Talbot Lago T150 SS Teardrop Coupé and a 1938 Bugatti Gangloff 57 C Cabriolet.

This year again promises to be an attractive field of participants. It is clear that many collectors are eager to get their cars out of the garage after a long winter sleep.

The post-war classes for this years are:

- 70 years of Ferrari by Pininfarina

- Historic concept cars

- Iconic sports cars of the 80s & 90s

- Front-engine grand prix racers

- Post-war special coachwork

- Gentlemen’s sports cars of the 50s & 60s

The pre-war classes for this year are:

- 90 years of Carrozzeria Pininfarina. This could go either way. Peugeot 404, Cadillac and most probably Alfa Romeo and Lancia.

- Mille Miglia originals

- Shining brass of the belle époque

- Brexit tourers of the 30s

- Pre-war special coachwork

Also unique this year is the exhibition of Dutch coachbuilders; various companies from bygone eras such as Veth, Schutter & van Bakel, Pennock and Spyker will be on display.

The Concours d'Elegance Palace Soestdijk will take place over the weekend of 27, 28 and 29 August 2021. More information and tickets are available here.
