Far Eastern finery

We have reasons to believe this picture was taken in the Far East. Malaysia, perhaps? Indonesia? Thailand? The Philippines? The number plate should be an easy giveaway for some of you. Please tell us if you know.

What we do know is that the car is a Jaguar Mk VII, a large and luxurious saloon which is said to be the car for which William Lyons always intended the XK engine. With the 3.4-litre DOHC variant, the mighty Mk VII was good for a 101mph top speed, making it also the fastest production saloon car in the world at the time. We’re talking 1950 here.

The Mk VII was also the first Jaguar saloon to sell in large numbers outside the UK, mostly to America. There can’t be too many of them in the Far East, we reckon. It does fit in particularly well with that magnificent house in the background though, due to its colour and splendour. Over the top? Perhaps. The mansion might be considered Neo-Baroque, so perhaps it should have had a BMW 'Baroque Angel'?
