Fifty-five years ago, in September 1955, Mercedes-Benz introduced a new range of vans, the L 319. In the years after WWII several manufacturers had seen the need for a compact truck for speedy delivery within a short range. Mercedes didn’t want to stay behind and cam up with the L 319, a no-nonsense van that appealed to their clients who could adapt it to their needs. Among its many uses it served for instance as fire-fighter, mobile shop or transporter for small delicacies. Over 100.000 were produced and today many L 319 vans are still in use, although most are now converted to mobile homes.
