Small gatherings of like-minded enthusiasts can be just as satisfying, interesting and enjoyable as the larger events. Take the gathering in Malvern Worcestershire in the UK last Sunday for example. This is one of the regular Sunday breakfast meetings organised by members of the Vintage Hot Rod Association and The Vintage Stockyard. They are held right through the year on the third Sunday of every month at “The Filling Station” diner who supply those who turn up with endless cups of coffee, bacon sandwiches, and English breakfasts. It is all in a good cause too, since the event and the diner support www.driveoutcancer.org with a donation after every meeting. Although of course, hot rods and customs are welcome, the organisers also welcome vintage and classics of all ages and eras and previous gatherings have included standard saloons, sports cars, and commercials.
Last Sunday the gathering included hot rod Ford Prefect and Anglia, a very tasty V8 flathead Model A roadster in flat black (see below), a Plymouth Fury, and Anglia, an immaculate Harley-Davidson, and a mint Citroen H van camper powered by an Audi diesel engine! The Vintage Stockyard had a stand displaying some of their stock of Americana, vintage clothing and collectables. An extra meeting is planned this year for Sunday 6th July, in the afternoon not the morning on this occasion. On the day there will be a big display of customs, bikes, and classics with awards for best paint, best bike, outstanding classic, and even an award for ‘nearly finished’. There will be entertainment from bands and a pig roast. The venue is Sandy’s Road on the Spring Lane Trading Estate and the next regular meeting is on the morning of Sunday March 16th and to which you are all invited!
