Tough to crack car puzzle #140

Not unthinkable that the car was inspired by Cisitalia or similar designs. Created & built in the US in the early fifties is this intriguing RHD ! No wonder it is a right hooker as it is based on solid, well proven, fast selling British components. Yet, when you look at it from a linguistic perspective one could say it is a VW while it is way-way very far away from anything like a Volkswagen. It has a proper chassis. A four cylinder watercooled engine. And a fiberglass body. The topspeed claim of 139 MPH was on the optimistic side. As the car was introduced two years earlier than this shot at the Oakland Expo Building in Oakland CA there may be small difference with the first version. Anyway we want you to tell us about the car shown here. Give us your best shot regarding Make, Year & Type plus any (trivial) information you may have at hand.   May the best competitor win.
