Tough to crack car puzzle #118

A long bonnet, a short rear overhang and a sharp sloping roof: there’s no doubt this week’s mystery two-seater is a sports car. The chunky fivespoke alloys with period radials and fat sidepipe (there’s one on the other side, too) surely already guided you towards its origins: the Land Of Plenty. But despite being much publicized in its year of birth (1968) there was something very odd about this car. To quote a major advertisement from its day it was “the car you can’t have”. Know why?
