A few months ago we told you about a dickey seat for the MGA. But it now appears that MG wasn't the only one that could be fitted with this option. James Helms found a 1950s magazine cutting telling of a Californian Austin Healey also with dickey seat. It appears the owner had three kids who loved riding in the Healey, so he designed an extra rear seat for which the deck lid had to be cut in two. He also fitted a windshield and an extra wide seat belt (three kids - one belt - apparently). Hard to imagine a favorable view of such an open tail gunner's configuration today. The cost of the conversion came to 450 dollar. To put that in perspective: at that time a new Nash Metropolitan was priced at $1445 and the base price of a new Chevrolet, Ford, or Plymouth was under $2000. The Healey owner must have truly loved his kids!
