Today’s Friday lady is chosen with a reason. Yes, she’s looking somewhat sorry for herself. But then ending up in a puddle on your way to the Sunday Roast may not have been what she expected of the day, back in the early 1950s. Did the car let her down? We wouldn’t be surprised. But help was at hand. At least somebody must have been brave enough to wade through the water in order to make that photograph, but then he or she may have worn footwear of a very different kind.
Back to the reason for using this particular shot. It’s the car. Very British, oh dear yes, as with its razor edge styling it mimicked Rolls-Royces and Bentleys of its day. Some say those cars were outdated by the time this miniature version by Triumph came out, but at least it was distinctive. But the clue is in the name: Mayflower. Yes, this creature was named after that archetype of intrepid ships, which formed the backbone of this weekend's festivities. Happy Thanksgiving weekend!
