BLENHEIM, Ontario (27 April 2021) – RM Sotheby’s is delighted to announce a flurry of stunning final consignments for its upcoming Amelia Island auction on 22 May at the Ritz-Carlton. Leading the group is an iconic 1971 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider which is joined by an impressive single-owner collection of six cars headed by a rare and desirable 1961 Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet Series II.
The 1971 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider on offer is the 36th of only 121 examples built and is the 1972 New York International Automobile Show car. Retaining its matching-numbers chassis, engine, and gearbox, it is finished in its original colors of Giallo Fly over Pelle Nera. Owned by an early Ferrari enthusiast and friend of Enzo Ferrari, Alfred Ducato, until his death in 1987, the car has covered fewer than 13,500 miles and boasts an exemplary and fully documented history from new. Ferrari Classiche Certified and a Platinum Winner at the Cavallino Classic, this Daytona Spider is ready to be thoroughly enjoyed and presents a very rare opportunity for a discerning collector. (Estimate: $2,250,000 - $2,750,000).
The sale also features an incredible single-owner collection of six cars, headlined by another immensely rare and coveted Ferrari, a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet Series II. The 127th of 200 Series II Cabriolets produced, it is presented in factory-correct Grigio Conchiglia over Pelle Blu with matching cloth top, accompanied by a desirable hardtop. A true gentleman’s Ferrari, the car was fully restored in 2013 and would be a prime candidate to be exhibited at international concours, FCA events, or simply to be enjoyed by a driving enthusiast looking to experience Ferrari performance and luxury at its finest. Certified by Ferrari Classiche, it retains numbers-matching engine, gearbox and rear differential. (Estimate: $1,200,000 - $1,400,000). Also in the collection is a 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Berlinetta, a US-market car delivered new via Modern Classic Motors of Reno, Nevada. Presented in classic red over a beige and black interior, this much desired model is well maintained and boasts a well-documented history. (Estimate: $500,000 - $600,000).
Few cars of the era are prettier than the 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS. Supplied new in Florida and equipped with power windows, air conditioning, and Cromodora wheels, this Dino is finished in red with a removable black targa top and has an odometer reading 39,450 miles. Freshly serviced, the Dino was shown at Cavallino in 2008 and represents an outstanding highly optioned, low mileage car. (Estimate: $350,000 - $400,000). The final Ferrari in the collection is a 2005 Ferrari Superamerica, one of only 170 examples produced for the U.S. market. Finished in Argento Nürburgring and optioned with the desirable “Fiorano” handling package and Daytona-style seats, this rare car was marketed by Ferrari as the world’s fastest convertible car. (Estimate: $225,000 - $275,000).
Rounding off the collection is a matching numbers 1954 XK120 SE Roadster, restored in circa 2008 and the beneficiary of an extremely comprehensive recent service (estimate: $100,000 - $125,000); and a 1971 Jaguar E Type Series 3 V-12 Roadster,an early and desirable V-12 Series 3 that benefits from a previous restoration and a comprehensive recent service.
