Shades of the Future

There was a time when concept cars were seen as an opportunity to be outrageous in design without any real prospect of the vehicle entering full-scale production. This is the 1954 Lincoln Futura Concept Car built by Ford to test public reaction to styling. Obviously it never went in production, but then again, we have seen this car so many times that it is very familiar. Have you figured it out yet where you saw it? No? Holy Mackerel, sure you have! The Futura was bought by that great customizer George Barris who in three weeks’ time created the outrageous Batmobile for the 1960s TV-series about Batman and his side-kick Robin the Boy Wonder.
