Rover 3500, an update from the passenger seat

It's been some time since we've given you a progress report of the editorial Rover 3500 V8. The sturdy saloon has been used all winter without any problems. The odo-meter now reads over 14.000 km, which means some 4000+ k's have been added since November 9th. And so it was decided that she should take us to the Essen Techno Classica in style. Well, uhmm, yes, and now we had a slight problem. After some driving on the highway we had to make a short stop and when we wanted to continue, the V8 engine just died on us. The problem was soon established as 'vapor lock' (due to excessive heat the fuel changes from liquid to gas and thus effectively blocks the passage of any fuel to the mechanical fuel pump). Trying to get the fuel moving by sucking on the fuel line only resulted in a mouth full of fuel, but not in removing the gas bubble. Help of the local road patrol was sought and they had the problem fixed in minutes by attaching an electrical fuel pump to the line. We were on our way, but within a quarter of an hour we ran into a traffic jam and the same problem occurred again. When that was fixed by another road patrol, the Rover ran faultlessly and we had a clear going to Essen.
