Perhaps at first sight you may not have a clue as to what this is. We'll tell you, it's a knitting machine! It was made by a German manufacturer in 1873, but he moved his factory in 1880 to a town where the river Sulm flows into another river (we are not going to make this too easy!). In 1886 he then began to produce bicycles and a few years later the name of the company became a brand name. Motorcycles came in 1901, followed by their first car in 1905. Car production halted in 1932, but was resumed in 1957 with a small, air-cooled engine. However, their most famous cars were equipped with a pistonless engine.
