Hubertus Hansmann visited last Sunday the meeting "Day of the open Memorial"at the Zinkhütter-Hof Stolberg and introduces a new category of classics...:
This "Tag des offenen Denkmals" in Germany is one day per year, when many museums and memorials can be visited without charge. Since a couple of years, in Stolberg/Rheinland, the museum "Zinkhütter Hof" located in a nearly 200 years old glass factory, organise a nice classic-car meeting at this special day. It is an open meeting, so everybody with an Old- or Yountimer can show up and because of this, there is a very wide range of cars. This year, it reached from 1920s Citroens up to my Mercedes 190E. Citroen's 'double chevron' was the most seen logo this year. I counted seven Traction Avant, at least a dozen 2CV, three DS, a CX, a BX, a XM, a Mehari and last but not least, one could spot the Citroen logo in the Maserati Bora engine compartment. The very nice thing at this meeting is, that cars come, cars go and after two or three hours, more than a half of the attending cars have changed.
An extra tidbit is the free entrance to the museum. Next to the permanent exhibition (mainly about thr local zinc- and needle industry, but also with four Neander bikes!), some French classics were presented together with a BMW Isetta, towing a small camper. After leaving the building, half of the cars outside again have changed. A perfect event that is to say if you have an appetite for many non-exceptional classics.

Since a couple of years, in Stolberg/Rheinland, the museum "Zinkhütter Hof" (> http://www.zinkhuetterhof.de/ ), located in a nearly 200 years old glass kiln, present a nice classic-car meeting at this special day. It is an open meeting, so everybody with an "Old- or Yountimer" can show up and because of this, there is a very wide range of cars, that appear. This year, it reached from 1920s Citroens up to my Mercedes 190E and even to two W124, a "very used" limousine and a nerly NOS-looking Cabriolet. Citroen was the most seen logo this year. I counted seven postwar TAV, at least a dozen 2CV, three DS, a CX, a BX, a XM, a Mehari and last but not least, you could spot the Citroen double angle in the Maserati Boras engine compartment. But there were many other exotic brands, that appeared. It´s a long time, since I saw a Midas, a Reliant Scimitar, a Ford "Buckeltaunus", a DKW Schnellaster or a Fiat 850-Sport on the road. The very nice thing at this meeting is, that cars come, cars go and after two or three hours, more than a half of the attendant cars have changed.
The additional extra is the free entrance to the museum. The permanent exhibition is mainly about zinc- and needle industry, but also with four German 1920s Neander bikes displayed. For the "Tag des offenen Denkmals", additionaly some French classics from the 1970s were presented inside the museum together with a BMW Isetta, towing a small camper. And after leaving the building, half of the cars outside again have changed. All in all, it was a perfect event. Nice people, good and hot coffee, scrumptious cake, perfect weather and a lot of non-unexceptional cars.
