Near muscle car in near-new condition after 46 years (click pic!)

Cars won as prizes usually don't get much respect, as their new owners don't have big bucks invested. But that's not always the case. Consider this top of the line 1967 American Motors Rambler Rebel SST hardtop, won in a furniture store drawing in January 1967 by then 53 year old Ora Marie Long of Los Alamitos, California. Always garaged and never driven in rain, this car's stunningly original condition is as close to new as 46 year old cars get. (There's actually one bit of damage visible in the pics. Can anyone spot it?) Most of the 15,287 Rebels produced in 1967 carried the standard six cylinder, while far fewer had V8s, as with the 290 cubic incher in this car. In 1967, the V8 Rebel SST was AMC's anemic version of a muscle car, and buyers responded with disinterest. AMC's performance "cred" would increase after the new Javelin appeared in 1968. Mrs. Long's no reserve estate auction on eBay will end only hours after this publication so we can only guess where it ends (update: the Rebel SST sold for US$25,100!) when a savvy collector - who undoubtedly recognized it as a unique opportunity and well below the cost of restoring a lesser vehicle - is counting his blessings and will collect his 46 year old brand new prize car.
