Some guys have all the luck. John Elema's father was a the manager of a truck garage in Lochem, Netherlands. When in 1947 his son was old enough to drive, he presented him with the pedal car you see here. Together with a mechanic from the garage, John's father constructed the chassis; transmission was on the rear wheels through an adjustable V-belt and steering was done with a car window mechanism that required several revs from left to right with the steering wheel, just like a real car. The metal body was built by a local truck body shop. Our first thought was that they were influenced by a contemporary Cisitalia, don't you think so? Anyway, with a father that enthusiastic about his son's mobility, no wonder John is also frequent contender in our Pre-War Quizzes and Post-War Puzzles.
