Letter to the editor
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to all the British Auto clubs/associationsI find on the internet in the hope that a member of staff or with their helpthrough their network of members could aid in my quest.
It is a tradition in our family to restore andto build motor boats. My father was a Raceboat builder like me today and was ateam member during the time when the world record was achieved by Christoph vonMayenburg in 1966 with the Mathea VIII boat. I found the Mathea VIII boat bycoincidence during a boat race in Italy in 2010 after many years of searchingfor it. In 2018 I got the opportunity to acquire the boat my father and I workedon for that famous world record achievement and purchased it and am nowrestoring her back to her original specs.
I am now searching for the last piece of thepuzzle to restore her to glory. My research shows that the engine was sold, inrunning condition with transmission- and exhaust system circa 1990 from Germanyand then shipped to the UK. The engine had only run for 2 hours til it wassold. I don‘t have any more information to the whereabouts of this engine. Itis my belief that it would have been re-used in the replacement or restorationfor a Maserati. The original engine is a rare Maserati TIPO 62.
Maserati TIPO 62 which was based on the 5-litreengine of the Maserati 450S and with a displacement enlarged to 5,600cc andfinally to 6,400cc, this „V-8“ was adapted for marine use to power KD 800 kgand KD 900 kg inboard racing boats.
I would like to know if anyone purchased an enginethat fits this description and would be willing to talk to me about this Engine.
I appreciate any help or suggestions you canoffer and thank you in advance for your time helping me with this endeavor.
Yours Sincerely
Rolf Gersch
