If you have to drive a big family around it sure helps to own a big car. But even when there's no large family, a roomy car can be very useful for moving stuff like spare parts. And if you do need one, why not do it in style? A typical British Estate Car for instance. They are the upmarket version of the more down-to-earth station-wagons. We found a perfect trio to choose from at Richard Edmonds, who will offer them at their auction on March 2nd. The most attractive of this contemporary trio is -in our opinion- this 1961 Vauxhall PA Cresta Friary Estate. These were converted from four-door saloons by little-known coachbuilder Friary of Basingstoke and are quite rare these days. If we're not mistaken Queen Elisabeth owned one. Also from 1961 is this Ford Zodiac Mk. II. The Estate coachwork was made by Abbot of Farnham. It looks very nice, although it will need a little tender loving care to bring it back to its true glory. And the more ordinary -if you dare call it that- is the 1961 Ford Consul that also sports an Abbots of Farnham body. This one wants a bit more work as the engine is dismantled and needs a rebuilt. In short: choosing between one of these three will be difficult, we like 'm all!
