1934/54 Lancia Augusta Roadster by Serra

Pedro Serra from Barcelona created very modern designs on every kind of chassis, from Rolls-Royce to Renault 4/4, especially during the 1950s. The car of the photos is a very rare body created on an old Lancia Augusta chassis, first registered in Barcelona in 1934. This car was used -and most probably nearly destroyed- during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). In 1944 it was reconditioned for daily use with a four cylinder Fiat engine.

In 1954 the car was sent to the Serra workshop, where a new V-4 Lancia Aprilia engine was installed while the old body was replaced by this new hand-made roadster. The result is most striking and modern for its age, specially if we think in the "usual" Lancias of those years. Perhaps the most similar "official" Lancia are the Appia Zagato GTE, specially in the side lines and the front "nose". This last model however was launched in 1958, four years after Serra´s Lancia... so, who inspired who? Unfortunately this unique Serra lefdt without leaving a trace many years ago.
