Have you ever tried the infamous heal-and-toe driving technique on your own car? We have (and on other’s cars, too…) and have to admit we’re no wizards in doing so! It’s not easy. But the late Jean-Francois Piot could make it look real easy, as the mesmerizing film footage above demonstrates.
The official explanation: ‘The heal-and-toe technique involves operating the throttle and brake pedals simultaneously with the right foot, while facilitating normal activation of the clutch with the left foot. It is used when braking and downshifting simultaneously (prior to entering a turn), and allows the driver to ‘blip’ the throttle to raise the engine speed and smoothly engage the lower gear.’ Maybe the video will help you? We really enjoyed this bit of footage ourselves with that beautiful music, giving it such a relaxed atmosphere (anyone know the musicians?).
