Nowadays FN Herstal from Belgium is the largest exporter of military arms in Europe. But in former times FN Herstal was also an important manufacturer of motor vehicles, a development championed by managing director Alexandre Galopin. He was also known for the Galopin doctrine, a "lesser evil" tactic that allowed industrial development in the occupied Belgium during the Second World War. Part of the goal was to keep Belgian industry strong during the war in order not to leave the economy crippled once the war ended. As far as the motor vehicles go, he succeeded since the production continued until 1965. For mr Galopin himself it ended not so well since he was assassinated in 1944 by a Nazi collaborator.
Could this be a 1951 FN M13 450? And what's up with the skeletton, possibly a subtile referrence to FN's other activities? What could the caption be? Mail us! Post your caption before Friday under Comments below. Best headline will get the PostWarClassic dashplate. Winner should notify us and provide mail address through info&prewarcar.com (exchange & for @)
UPDATE: in our view the most original headline was by Gideon Hekster. Very short and very much to the bone. Congratulations Gideon!
