The automobile has always been a great inspiration for inventors of accessories. But sometimes we wonder what were they thinking? Take for instance this coin-operated automobile. The idea behind the invention was perhaps that it could be used for 'drive-yourself' rental cars. It works like old-time gas meters. You put some coins or tokens in the meter and when they are used up, a small alarm sounds. You then have a short moment to refill the apparatus with new coins, and hey presto, the car moves again. We are glad this is one invention that never caught on, just think what would happen if you are in the fast lane and discover you're out of small change!
