Editor's weekly ad review: DS Cabrio, HK500, Salmson

Every week, we see amazing cars and stuff being listed here. We like to show you some personal favourites and we are happy to hear from you when you totally disagree. Feed us with your thoughts and opinions. We love to hear from you.

The subject of the week is French cars. First we saw an amazing Citroen DS21 Cabriolet. We had a quick telephone chat with the owner who is honest enough to tell that this is not one of the original Chapron cars. However it is not one of the many later replicas. Chapron sold the special tooling to a French firm in Normandy and they built several examples before they stopped alltogether. As Chapron stopped in 1973 this must be a post '73 cabriolet.

Auction listings are always offer an interesting read. At their upcoming Monaco sale RM Sotheby's are offering a freshly restored 1961 Facel Vega HK500. We read  "capable of effortless cruising at over 100 mph". Well, to be honest, we think highly of the Facel Vega HK500. But we're not so sure if it is a wise idea to cruise  (driving continuously and for more than 5 minutes)  at a notch over 100 mph, for example 105. We'll leave the issue to the lucky next owner.

Nothing less than a sensation was the collection of  no less than four(!) 1954 Salmson 2300S coupes offered by Christian Decombas. Ranging from project to usable and in four different colours. Within a few days three of the foursome were sold. Only the bright red specimen remaining. That is to say, so far.

In the parts section, somebody offered a book about the history of Citroën. From day one - just after WW I-  untill 1979. More specific is this old advertising picture of the Citroen DS19 on the 1962 Coupe des Alpes. Finally for those planning to buy a a French classic this spring is this French buyers guide. With that in hand you may be able to send us some corrections...?
