In 1964 a children’s book was published telling the story of a boy driving a miniature racing car. It was written (in French) by Alain Grée and pictures were drawn by Philippe Salembier. To promote the book two life-size cars were made in which kids could drive on a miniature circuit (flickr). That must have been quite an experience as the cars were powered by a 150cc NSU engine with push-button starter and an automatic clutch. One such circuit was made on the roof of the Grand Bazar in Antwerp, Belgium, but perhaps there have been more as editor JB remembers driving a similar white kids-racer in the early sixties. One of these racing cars is owned by an passionate collector, who wonders who constructed these racers. Do you remember having seen or perhaps even driven one back then? Tell us about it!
Update: The engine has been completely overhauled. It has a new cylinder / piston / sealing’s / clutch. It starts at the first push on the starter button. The first test drive was great, just a bit too fast in my opinion…. R.R.
