As with clothes, plenty of people see a car as the extension of themselves. And, yes, we do believe that a four-wheeler, to some degree at least, oozes out your own preferences and life styles. Toyota Prius drivers, be aware.
It all makes this picture the more miraculous. What we see is a press picture made for Vogue magazine in 1969. The centre of attraction is that casually parked Fiat Dino Coupe 2.0. Or is it? No it’s not. Forget that mundane mass-market sports car. The focus is fully on the girl in front of it, wearing… well, what isshe wearing? That girl, flanked by what seem to be two humble servants, is Countess Vera Gottliebe Anna von Lehndorff-Steinort. Although she is better known under the slightly easier to remember stage name of Veruschka. The late 1960s and early 1970s were her peak, career wise at least, reputedly earning $10,000 a day being a model. But then she fell out of grace with the editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine in 1975 and departed from her modelling career.
But with her unmistakably superior looks can hardly be missed in this humble world, can’t she? And so Veruschka continues to appear on catwalks and in fashion shoots (both below) to this very day. We prefer to stick to the 1960s icon though, and thus bombard her as her old self to being another of our special Friday Ladies for now.
