The colour bombs of the 1970s

There was a time when our cars weren’t all black or grey. Or so dark blue/green/brown/red that you’d think they were black after all. We had the oatmeal, cream and pastel colours of the 1950s and the more vibrant and lovely hues of the 1960s. Then came the 1970s with a bang on the colour palette. Earth shades with brown, yellow and beige were everywhere in interiors but car manufacturers went wild on the brightest possible oranges and greens, yellows and blues.

Can you imagine a mid-1970s Lamborghini Countach in grey? We cannot (or maybe we can - we actually found proof of its existence, thank you, but don’t believe Lamborghini itself must have liked it).

Anyway. This Innocenti Mini left the factory in bright orange, or Rosso Aragosta to be more precise, just like the one seen here. But for the owner that wasn’t quite bright enough. Roof, A-pillars, bonnet and much of the front (and no doubt the back, too) were given a bonus layer of bright green in order to make it stand out even more. Don’t worry about removing those towing eyes, painter, it’s just about fun. Oh, and doesn’t it fit in nicely with the dress of our Friday Lady..?
