This day in 1960 the Cuban revolution took place, and the law was granted that all American cars would be nationalized. We know what happened since. And apart from cigars and Che Guevara mugs, these cars remain a favourite among nostalgists and tourists who visit Cuba now. We all know that they are bound to disappear now that President Raúl Castro is making bigger changes in Cuban motoring laws since the revolution. Some say all those sturdy Studebakers, Oldsmobiles, Chevrolets ánd Soviet imports are bound to disappear soon.
Could be, although prices for new cars are extremely high, so it may take a bit longer than expected. But apart from the obvious American iron bound to disappear, there seem to be more interesting classics within the Cuban boundaries. The Austin shown above is just an example. We've heard stories about very interesting Alfas, Mercedeses, Lancias and even Rolls-Royces...
