The weekend of the 7 - 9 August sees the 43rd Oldtimers Grand Prix held at the Nürburgring and on saturday COYS will hold an auction of 72 cars at the same venue varying from a 1961 Vespa 400 microcar to a choice of three Lamborghini tractors!
Also from Italy came two Lovely Lancias which caught our eye. A 1957 Aurelia B20 GT with the 2 litre V-6 giving this beautiful innovative car the performance it deserves, beside a 1964 Lancia Flaminia GTL with aluminium superleggera bodywork by Touring and 2.8 litre V-6 with triple Webers. Two desirable classics with one estimate double that of the other.
As befits an auction at the German Nürburgring there are several Mercedes Benz models starting with a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 220 A Ponton dragged out of a barn after 30 years' rest - the perfect tow car? In contrast is a 1965 Mercedes-Benz 220 SE Coupe with only 4,700 miles on the clock and a perfect chance to buy a solid classic in 'as new' condition.
There are Alfas, Porsches and American cars with lots of litres, but after 40 years in a private collection comes a 1968 Giannini Sport 1300. The Giannini name goes back to 1920 and in the 1930 the brothers were tuning Fiat 500 Topolinos securing twelve world speed records. The company specialised in developing new types of engines like the Boxer flat-four that powers this car - ' ...probably the only surviving Giannini with such an engine.'
