Bonhams adds a little shine to Scottsdale

Good heavens, we couldn’t find a single rust bucket in Bonhams' Scottsdale catalogue. All of the cars on offer this weekend are meticulously presented by the auctioneer and look as if plucked away from the  greens of Pebble Beach. Superbly restored sports cars aplenty – among them not one but two pristine looking 1954 Corvettes (as above). And when they are not restored these cars have something else to stand out from the rest. There is a Lotus Esprit with 32,000 miles from new, a Ferrari Daytona with under 9,000 miles; a Porsche 930 Turbo with 7,000 and a 1975 Datsun 280Z with just 2,000 on the clock. There is a Porsche 914, coming from its first tender loving careful owner, a Big Healey with one proprietor for the last 41 years and a Ghibli with tons of bills and a cupboard full of concours trophies. Hats off to the men who managed to bring them all together in Scottsdale. Even the ‘barnfind’ E-type S1 on dark blue Oregon plates looks perfectly useable to us and will no doubt break its estimate.
