One of the themes at the upcoming Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance will be the celebration of ‘100 Years of Chevrolet’. One of the automobiles to make an appearance there is the 1955 Biscayne, a four-passenger dream car by Harley Earl and his styling team. The Biscayne was designed as a pillar-less hard top design complete with suicide doors, indented side panels, and “Stratospheric” windshield, styling gimmicks that would later show up in the Corvair and Corvette production models. It was displayed at the popular Motorama shows of the 50s. All of the Motorama cars were display pieces and most had no engine, electrics or interiors. The Biscayne was different as it had full running gear with the then new production 1955 Chevrolet V-8. Most Motorama concept cars were destroyed by GM, but this Biscayne escaped the crusher. In 1988 it was found by Joe Bortz at a junkyard where it languished, being cut into eight pieces. Over the years Joe returned the Biscayne to its former glory.
