Whether you like it or not: the world of the erotic novel lost a character two weeks ago when Jacqueline ‘Jackie’ Collins passed away. Sometimes referred to as the inventor of the genre, Collins started her career as an actress (like her older sister) in the 1950s. She played in several British television series and movies and supposedly liked (sports) cars. She is seen here with a pretty Facel Vega and here on an MG. But the photograph seen above easily beats both of these. It was taken at the 1956 Earl’s Court Motor Show, where Jackie was keen to pose in a Goggo T300 with zebra print interior by Car Robes, which made seat covers. In fact the leopard outfit worn by Collins was a Car Robes product, too. She clearly liked leopard print.
Jackie Collins gave up her acting career in the 1960s and changed her profession to novelist. Her first book, ‘The World Is Full of Married Men’ was described as ‘nasty, filthy and disgusting’ and was quickly banned in Australia and South Africa, which helped it becoming a best seller. The Sunday Times Rich List of some years ago listed her as the UK’s fifth richest author with an estimated personal fortune of 60 million pounds. She died of breast cancer aged 77.
