Barbie’s birthday

You have probably missed it, but Barbara Millicent Roberts, better known as the fashion doll Barbie, just celebrated her birthday. Created in 1959, at the peak of the American tailfin-madness, she got 57 years old this week. And this girl reminded us of her. Her Chevrolet Impala is of the same year too and what a great rear deck it has to paint your lips on; check those eyebrows or simply spray some perfume on.

There has been a multitude of Barbie cars in the past decades - the majority of them bubblegum pink in colour, of course – with the first of them arriving in toy shops in 1962: an Austin-Healey 3000, followed by a Mercedes Benz 300 SL roadster, a Hot Rod, a Dune Buggy and many, many more. The current wheels of Barbie's choice are known as the Glam Convertible and look perhaps most like a BMW?
