Back to back: Stingray or Miura

Let’s try and forget all about money, prejudice and prestige for a little while. Imagine you’d missed out about the classic car craze of the last decades, but do remember one thing: that bright blue Corvette Stingray on the sleeve of your favourite Beach Boys album. The car belonged to Dennis Wilson – no doubt the coolest of the boys - who reputedly raced it during the night on the streets of LA. A similar car is now available from Coys Classic & Sports Car sale in Ally Pally this weekend. From the last day of the year in 1965 up until 2011, this Stingray was owned by one and the same man (not Wilson). And thus comes with stacked history files and great provenance. You’ll just have to love it.

Is there anything better? There might be, when your favourite album was this. Rod Stewart was (is?) a pretty cool guy, too, who also owned a string of sports cars. One of them was this Lamborghini Miura, which also comes with its original records by Lamborghini Concessionaires Ltd. of London. It’s a P400S, but the current owner decided to uprate it to SV-spec, including front and rear clam modifications, suspension upgrades and rear lights. Why anyone would do that is our guess, but Coys writes: “Importantly, the car’s bulkhead, engine, and chassis all bare correct numbers for the original S and they are original to the car.” Oh – its estimate is over ten times higher than that of the Corvette. Worth it? You decide.
