Back to back: Charger or Porker?

No comparison? Perhaps. Just look at those backs! But Dodge’s sportiest of sports cars and Porsche’s laziest of GTs may have more in common. These V8-powered, front engined, rear wheel driven bulldogs both were prestige projects for their manufacturers. Oh, and Brightwells is selling both of them on the 29th of November at Leominster.

The Charger seen here spent it’s early days in Los Angeles with a five litre engine under that vast bonnet. But it moved up north to Canada where it was restored, before being imported to the UK in 2016. Meanwhile, a 7.2-litre was fitted and it was repainted, too. But the Deep Burnt Orange metallic paint is still the original colour for this car. Option-wise it comes with remotely-operated mirror, 3-speed wipers, bucket seats, fender-mounted turn signals, AM Music master radio and Dodge’s ‘Tic Toc Tach’ – a rev-counter which incorporates a clock in its centre... From the seller’s blurb: “Post-restoration it is still very smart internally, externally and under the hood and our vendor has cared for it, using it for evening and weekend cruises. How he resisted taking it down the strip we do not know. Estimate? £30- to £35,000.

Over to the 928. The one seen here is a Series 1 car with manual gearbox that’s only had one owner since new. It was ordered in Oak Green metallic paint with a lovely basic specification: single door mirror, manual seats with half-leather trim and a sunroof. Oh furthermore there were headlight washers, electrically powered door mirror, powered windows, air-conditioning, cruise control, and a stereo. The auctioneer: “The car has been regularly serviced throughout its life as evidenced by the extensively stamped service history books and invoices. This, and the 25 MoT certificates, also confirm that the mileage of just over 100,000 miles is genuine (and nicely run-in; these engines last forever if properly used and correctly maintained).” Recently, it was fully recommissioned with a new windscreen, sound deadening material, window seals, discs, tyres and much more. Surely a top example of the species and not so badly estimates either at 19- to 22,000 GBP?

PS: We, ourselves, are no advocates for terms such as Porker, Roller and Beemer, but in combination with the Dodge model we couldn’t resist it here. Please forgive us.
