About tough to crack puzzle #144

Last Saturday 'Tough to Crack, Puzzle #144" showed a small yellow sports car on a circuit, driven by two dogs..  No, nobody guessed the names of the dogs. But as this was not the question, we can be quite satisfied with all the right answers that were given on the question which car it was. All competitors had a right answer, though some were more extensive than others.Like I wrote, the car was being spotted by me "last weekend during an oldtimer event in the Netherlands". This was during the British Race Festival in Zandvoort. The car, of course, is a British kitcar, based on a Mini.  As Erler Thomas mentioned early Saturday morning, the car is a BIOTA Mk I. Built on offer from 1968 till 1976. It is based on the subframe of a Mini MK2, engines are from 850 to 1275cc, fitted to a stove enammeled spaceframe with square tubes, holed strenghtening plates, integral roll over bar and a polyester fiber bodywork. Early years had 356 kilos going up to 406 kg. The man behind the project John Houghton. Could be build for GBP500. Other competitors, like Fried Stol and Till Jauernig mentioned the hill climbs that were won with the Biota.Tobias Kasimirowicz did only mention Biota and the fact that this Biota has Revolution wheels.   The winner however is without doubt Stuart Penketh! This third time winner not only mentioned Biota with all the general information, he also mentioned the details of specifically this photographed car, like the year it was produced (1971), the chassis number chassis (No. 1971-1-16L), that it was registered in the Netherlands in 1975 and that the engine has 1380cc (normally 1275cc). As a bonus, he also was specific about the hints I gave. Biota is also an Avant-rock /Electronic band formed in 1979, a municipality in the Spanish province of Zaragoza and a coniferous dense dwarf shrub.
Congratulations Stuart! Email your shirt size and mail address to [email protected], then we will send you the PostWarClassic.com T-shirt. Text and pictures: Marius Hille Ris Lambers
