About Puzzle # 142: 1954 DeSoto Firedome V8 Station Wagon.

A very American station wagon spotted by your editor in front of ... the station of Arvika, Sweden.  A full size fifties station wagon, with a well adrorned dashboard not seen on many US cars of the time. Last Saturday 'Tough to Crack, Puzzle #142" we only showed the rear end while taking away the give-away bits... Some of you complained that with us taking away the decals of the rearlid one could not see if this was the Power Master or Firedome version  of the 1954 DeSoto Station Wagon. We wouldn't be surprised if the Powermaster dashboard is a lot simpler. As usual the competitors came up with far more information than we can collect in a day's work. So we suggest that you enjoy their notes submitted under the quiz. For us again the ungrateful task to say who was maybe very good but just not as good as the others. Eight out of eleven competitors were correct in naming DeSoto. Others came up with the very similar Chrysler which only differs in detailing and number of bumper overriders.  Tobias Wenzel (jury) was nearly spot on with "1953 DeSoto Firedome Series 316 Station Wagon." What he didn't know and probably couldn't know as we didn't show the dash, is that the car is a 1954 model, the first year with dynaflite automatic transmission  as mentioned by George Cassidy. It was a tough decision this time, yet based on the very limited visual info we gave, we had to decide to point out George Cassidy as this week's winner. Congratulations George! Email your shirt size and mail address to [email protected] and the T-Shirt will go out the next day. See you all back next week!
