AA assistance in Afghanistan

Our loyal reader Terry Brown sent us a mail: 'I have a motoring puzzle and I know it's not a prewar (WW2) car but it's probably pre another war! The foto I sent you comes from the Canadian Forces and shows a car being pushed out of the snow, by soldiers in Afghanistan. Guys in my motoring club think it's a Rolls , but I don't believe it although there are some similarities. The problem is, one can't see the radiator. So, I have a few beers bet on the fact that it is not a Rolls. I wonder if anyone thru' your excellent website could identify the make so that I can win a beer?'

Well Terry, you have the beers 'in your pocket', the car is for sure no Rolls but a Volga. One of the better automotive products of the USSR prior to them building factories for  changing good Fiat 124s in poor Ladas...

Volga is wellknown in Afghanistan and not only as a carmake. Volga-Dnepr was the first airline to operate into Afghanistan after the start of international anti-terrorist operations.
