A threewheeler for your Valentine?

Think you know a thing or two about old cars, don't you? How about three-wheelers then? Morgan, of course. Isetta, okay. Reliant, yes. Messerschmitt, check. But would you be able to dish up more than 10 manufacturers? Chris Rees can. In fact he knows hundreds and hundreds more. And the good thing is that he shares his knowledge now in his new ‘Three-wheelers A-Z’, describing no less than 1,122 trikes. It’s a fascinating read with trivia about every three-wheeled contraption imaginable. From amphibians to bubble cars and from prototypes by the big six to really obscure motorized rickshaws.

Vehicles from every part in the world are included, although it may be no surprise that the majority of frivolities can be accounted for by the British. Rees’ love for the subject started with a Bond Bug, which became the last in line for one of the UK's most prolific three-wheeler manufacturers. Lawrie Bond’s Minicars were simple, cheap and spartan – ideal for British family transport. But Rees even knows that Bond decided to enter the American market after their Minicar was equipped with luxuries such as a passenger door. The lovely lady above shows it and so she may be called a Bondgirl years before they became connected to Aston Martins. No need for luxury there - what more does a British girl need for St. Valentine's day?
