Since you have found out about this website we assume you have a soft spot for automotive history. Well, there is a club for that! As a matter of fact, there are several and three of them (from the UK, from Germany and from The Netherlands) have now joint forces to organize the 2nd European Conference for Automotive History. The first took place in 2017 in Mulhouse, France. This one will take place this weekend in the Louwman Museum in The Netherlands.
Expect some 20 speakers with lectures covering a wide variety of subjects. The conference kicks off on Saturday morning at 9:00 with an introduction to the Louwman museum by its director Ronald Kooyman. Next you can hear from:
- Doctor Pal Negyesi - How the Motor Museum Saw the Car
- Richard Keller - The Mulhouse Museum and the Schlumpf Collection
- Nebojša Đorđević - The Belgrade Sports Car Race 3 September 1939
- Kate Olcott Sullivan - Transnational Heritage Preservation and Automobile Appreciation
- Fons Alkemade - the Dutch Centre for Automotive History Documentation
- Will Elbers - What Shall We Do With Our Archives?
- Monique Chapelle - Paul Berliet, an Entrepreneur Without Borders
- Karl Ludvigsen - Ferdinand Porsche – Master of Mechatricity
- Professor Elton McGoun - How US Auto Makers Countered European Sports Cars in the 1950s
- Tobias Baldus - Egon Brütsch and His Minicars
- Professor Patrick Fridenson - The Renault 4 of 1961 and Citroën’s Reaction
- Professor Alessandro Silva - Maserati Four-Cylinder Racing and Sports Cars 1932-49
Things continue on Sunday 31 March, with:
- Doctor Paul Nieuwenhuis - Ford, Budd, and the Origins of Mass Production
- Jens Møller Nicolaisen - Citroën, a Multi-National European Car Maker Adopting American Practice
- Doctor Gundula Tutt - Artificial Leather Materials and Their Use in Vehicles: History and Production

- Doctor Stefan Dierkes - Three Decades of European GT Coupés Coachbuilt by Pietro Frua

Yes, your editor will be there, too, abusing far-flung guests with stories about more mad Minis. But we’re sure there’s something for everyone. Now, if you really like to join the meeting, you can still apply here. But don’t forget to say hello when you’re coming.
