Ever came across a car, entered by a woman in a concours d’élégance? Not us. That makes this photograph the more remarkable. The lady seen here proudly shows her prize plate, just won in a concours. The car appears to be a Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud in a nice two-tone paint job (definitely not by her) but we have no idea what exact type or year this one is. The picture dates back to 1954 but by that time the Slilver Cloud had not yet been launched. Is that a Jack Barclay door plate revealed by the opening passenger door? It’s done for her by a footman, and there’s another man waiting to drive the big car off – he’s smiling at the ladies in the audience. Also have a look at the orchestra behind them and the speaker telling all about this extraordinary car and its fortunate lady owner, wearing pearls and mink. What a pity we can’t read what’s engraved in the silver plate or know anything more. Do you?
