A Century of Car-Making in Oxford

If you have already seen the Pre-War homepage you've read about the start of the production of the Bullnose Morris Oxford, 100 years ago. The factory where it all started is still standing and still turning out cars. Today total car production stands at 11,655,000 and counting. Over the decades that followed the Bullnose, a wide range of famous British car makes were produced, one Japanese (Honda) and not forgetting the Tiger Moth aircraft during the war. Yet two of the most famous are in our opinion the Morris Minor and the Mini. The Minor was built in large numbers during 23 years (1948-1971) and still has a great following and the Mini, well, we all know the Mini, don't we. Both were designed by Alec Issigonis, whose independent thinking earned him a place in the Design Museum.
