A remarkable chapter in the relationship between simulation and reality, the McLaren Solus GT first appeared in 2017 not on a racetrack, but in the virtual world of
Gran Turismo Sport. McLaren soon brought this digital vision to life, creating a hyper-exclusive track car unbound by rules or regulations, a machine translated directly from fantasy into reality.
Limited to just 25 examples worldwide, the Solus GT is a testament to McLaren’s obsessive pursuit of performance with every surface, intake, and channel engineered purely for function. The dramatic forward-sliding canopy reveals a central driving position reminiscent of a fighter jet, while sculpted wheel pods reduce turbulence and enhance high-speed precision. The vast front splitter channels air beneath the chassis into ground-effect tunnels which converge at the rear in an expansive diffuser, generating stability and downforce that exceed the car’s own weight. Further refined through computational fluid dynamics and exhaustive wind-tunnel testing, the Solus GT’s silhouette is as visually striking as it is aerodynamically flawless.
A roof-mounted, race-bred intake feeds the naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V-10, an engine built with an array of specially engineered components, including individual throttle bodies for instantaneous response and gear-driven camshafts and ancillary systems that eliminate the need for belts or chains. The engine is then mounted directly to the carbon fiber monocoque, serving as a structural element that increases chassis rigidity and ensures that every vibration and nuance of feedback reaches the driver unabated. Power is delivered through a seven-speed sequential gearbox with straight-cut racing gears and a carbon fiber clutch governed by precision software, producing razor-sharp shifts and exceptional control.
Revving past 10,000 rpm, the masterful powerplant produces 829 horsepower in a machine weighing just over 2,200 pounds. Acceleration is ferocious—zero to 60 mph arrives in roughly 2.5 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 200 mph—but the Solus GT’s true brilliance is felt rather than measured. Every shift and surge delivers a symphony of intoxicating sound, razor-sharp feedback, and pure adrenaline, creating an immersive driving experience unlike any other.
The 20th of only 25 examples constructed, this Solus GT was custom-ordered by the present collection with an extensive roster of optional equipment resulting in a suggested retail price of over $3 million. Its carbon fiber monocoque is finished in a stellar multicolor livery of exposed carbon fiber with vivid green striping while the cabin is awash with carbon fiber and Alcantara, highlighted by accents echoing the car’s vibrant exterior. The central driving position offers a perfectly symmetrical view of the track, while its adjustable pedal box and steering wheel ensure ideal ergonomics. It is accompanied by a factory-issued scale model and a collection of professional racing travel cases.
The Solus GT is where imagination meets apex engineering, with every detail crafted to deliver a visceral, unforgettable experience reserved for the privileged few daring enough to climb behind the wheel.
