Completed in Sant’Agata Bolognese on 22 January 1969, the Miura offered here was built as an early-production P400 S, finished in Argento Indianapolis with a Naturale (tan) leather interior. Equipped with engine number 2706, the car was specified as an Italian-market example, delivered new via Autoelite of Bologna, just down the road from the factory. The car was registered on 7 February 1969 to Lorenzo Cremona under the Italian registration number MI G55948. Its next Italian owner was recorded as Mario Franchini, who acquired the car in January of 1970. By the mid-1970s, the Miura had moved to Southern California with George Cocalas of Long Beach, California who was noted as its earliest known American owner.

Joseph Koenig, another Long Beach resident, was noted as acquiring the Miura in 1978, selling it one year later to noted exotic car enthusiast Oliver Kuttner. In 1988, the Miura was purchased by Randy Simon, who exhibited it at the New York Auto Show in 1991. Steven Colletti of Whittier acquired the car in 1995 and he immediately embarked on a four-year restoration, incorporating into the car many of the improvements made to the Miura over the duration of the model’s production run.

A summary of this work remains in the car’s history file and records the in-depth process, including stripping the bodywork and chassis to their bare metal, properly and carefully repairing any flaws, and installing desirable late-production SV engineering features, such as front chassis stiffeners, a solid front shock tower brace, and frame rail modifications to deflect more air to the radiator and front brake rotors. All suspension components were crack-checked for safety and either cadmium-plated or powder-coated, while the shocks were rebuilt by Koni. The brakes were upgraded to SV specifications, with improved cross-drilled rotors, carbon/Kevlar brake pads, and flexible braided stainless-steel brake lines. Former Lamborghini test driver Bob Wallace was entrusted with the rebuilding of the engine, which was upgraded with custom JAE pistons and rings and a .5-mm overbore, as well as the superior split-sump lubrication system, and exhaling through ANSA sport exhaust; Mr. Wallace also installed a limited-slip differential and updated the bearings, bushings, and transmission synchros. Finally, the decision was made to repaint the car in Giallo Fly alongside silver sills and wheels, with dark grey upholstery inside and complementary carpets, headliner, and steering wheel covering.

The restoration produced a Miura that was not only beautiful to behold, but one that could easily be enjoyed as the factory intended. Mr. Coletti would spend the following eight years driving his Miura, including on trips from his home in Southern California north to Monterey for the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and the surrounding festivities.

Later acquired by the Elkhart Collection of performance cars in Indiana, within that collection the Miura remained one of the owner’s favorite automobiles and was occasionally shown at concours events around the Midwest. Upon the dispersal of the collection in 2020 by RM Sotheby’s, the car was acquired by its most recent previous owner, Angus Mitchell as a 50th birthday gift to himself. Instantly becoming one of the centerpieces of his collection. In 2024, Grand Touring Classics of Long Beach, California cleaned and tuned up the carburetors. The original fuel tank was restored and reinstalled at this time, replacing the aging custom fuel cell fitted during its restoration, and a fire suppression system fitted.

Acquired by the consignor from the collection of Angus Mitchell via RM Sotheby’s in 2024, the car has been well kept and maintained ever since. With the current owner, air conditioning was added to make for a more comfortable driving experience in warm weather. Air conditioning was an optional extra on the Miura P400 S, but one which only became available after the production of this particular car. In November, the car was driven in a regularity rally with the current owner, who stated that it performed flawlessly throughout. Finally, an engine-out service was carried out recently alongside a transmission rebuild to make sure the car remains ready to enjoy.

Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful automotive designs of all time, the Miura has truly stood the test of time, and remains regarded today as the seminal supercar, a car which truly put Lamborghini on the map in addition to creating an entirely new genre of automobiles.
